Welcome to Hypersonic Tales! — Low Calorie, Carb Free Flash Fiction!

You've made it to a unique online flash fiction magazine that also became a unique flash fiction podcast this month. We don't just publish original speculative fiction stories as text. We produce them as audio files  — now available for download, thanks to Huffduffer! Hear them via the player placed just over the story content. Or take them with you via the download button just under the player. And enjoy!

Hypersonic Tales mainly features science fiction, fantasy, slipstream and macabre stories. To readers, enjoy your visit. Everything's free. To writers, we hope our stories will aid you on the sometimes frustrating path of a storyteller. Flash fiction is a great way to practice the art of the short story by paring it down to the fundamentals. We’ve been producing fresh issues of Hypersonic Tales each month since long ago in June 2009 AD. And we're constantly making enhancements. So, bookmark us and return often!

Speculative Flash Fiction for October 2009 Volume 1, Issue 5

fantastic castle. October Cover 2009 Hypersonic Tales

We're on your VI.

Somehow of the great stories for this month, two of them have "Six" in the title. An accident victim confronts the enemy within in "Phase Six" by Peter Andrews. "Number Six" by Adam Callaway presents a foe of a far different kind, give or take 8,000 light years.

I. E. Lester's flash fiction, "They're  Closing the Yard Today," is reminiscent of more terrestrial yard closings of decades past as the world's realigned. It's always the human component left to tell the tale. And as for the audio, we expressly apologize to anyone from Devon. The reader really doesn't think you sound like pirates.

"Nightfall" by Jason E. Rolfe will give those of you with a theological bent (or mechanical guilt) — pause to think.

If "Policy Woes" makes your skin crawl, thank author Aaron Polson. It got to us, too.

Try all the stories this month. You'll enjoy each one. Please give us some feedback! Send an e-mail to submissions@hypersonictales.com, if you like. (And we still proudly feature a complete lack of vampire stories. Keep sending in your non-vampire stories!)
